A great community within Mississauga is Lakeview; located just east of Port Credit, in the Region of Peel.
Lakeview was amalgamated into the Town of Mississauga in 1968, along with several other communities.
Lakeview is located in the extreme southeaster corner of Mississauga, and is best known for the 4 Sisters.
What are the 4 Sisters you ask?
Well they are the four smokestacks of the former Lakeview Generating Station of Ontario Power Generation. The reason they were called the 4 Sisters was because the generation plant actually had 8 boilers and two boilers were "sistered" to a common stack. In 2007, the generating station was demolished, a year before (2006), the 4 Sisters stacks were demolished.
The 4 Sisters used to be the tallest structure in the area, however with them gone, the tallest structure is now a 25 story condominium building, Applewood Place, which is located on the northwest corner of Bloor Street and Dixie Road.
An interesting fact is that Lakeview was the site for the first commercial air training airport in Canada, and home to many war time munitions plants in World War II. It has made itself part of history as it served its purpose in World War II, and has been documented by the presence of Aviation Road that runs south off Lakeshore Road, just west of Cawthra Road.
This residential area was originally a farming community, which settled in the early 1800s by families. After many decades, it has become a neighborhood we have all come to love.
Lakeview is a community filled with history, and to live in Lakeview is to live among it.
