One of the older neighbourhoods in the City of Mississauga lies in the southeaster part of the city, which is known as Dixie.

The name of this neighbourhood dates back to the Village of Dixie, which was located at the corner of Cawthra Road and Dundas Street West in the south part of the city.

One of the first settlers in Toronto Township was Philip Cody, who arrived in 1807. He built and operated an inn and tavern on the southeast corner of Dundas Street and Cawthra Road.

The village received its name after it being named in the honour of Dr. Beaumont Dixie, a settler who paid for the establishment of the Union Chapel.

Union Chapel was built in 1816 on the northeast corner of Dundas Street and Cawthra Road. Settlers of all Protestant denominations worshipped at this Chapel in accordance to their own faith. The original building was built of logs; however a stone church was built in 1837 to replace it. Today, this stone church can be seen in its original location.

Another site in Dixie is Cherry Hill, a house built in 1822 on Silvercreek Blvd. that now serves as a restaurant. Cherry Hill can still be seen where it was originally built by Joseph and Jane Silverstone.

Dixie is one of the quieter neighbourhoods within Mississauga, and it offers many of the same conveniences and amenities found in other neighbourhoods.

Getting around Dixie is made easier by the Dixie GO Station, located south of Dundas Street East on Dixie Road.

If you are interested in living in a quieter section of Mississauga, while being located to the convenience the city has to offer, then Dixie might be the neighbourhood for you.
